Easy DIY St. Patrick’s Day Bottle Cap Craft

This St. Patrick's Day craft blog was written by a paid contributor. All photos were taken by the Crafty Lumberjacks.

We absolutely love creating holiday décor and this year we wanted to come up with an easy St. Patrick’s Day craft idea that was both festive and simple to make. We decided on this shiny DIY clover bottle cap craft and think it totally shamrocks!

Keep reading to learn how to create your very own golden work of art that’ll make all the leprechauns green with envy, using Flex Seal products and everyday materials.

Materials

● 1 Flex Seal can, green

● 1 Flex Glue, 4 oz squeeze tube, clear

● Wood plank

● Gold bottle caps

● Cardboard shamrock cutout

● Twine

● Tarp

Steps

1. Spray the Shamrock with Flex Seal Green

Note: Before using Flex Seal, please read all the directions carefully.

In a well-ventilated area, lay down a tarp and place the shamrock on top. Use Flex Seal to spray 8” to 12” inches from the shamrock, using even sweeping motions to cover the entire surface. Once it’s completely covered and you’re happy with the outcome, set it aside to dry.

Flexpert Tip: In most situations, Flex Seal aerosol spray dries to the touch in 2-3 hours and fully cures in 24-48 hours.

2. Design Pattern on Wood with Bottle Caps

Next, arrange and position the bottle caps, top side down, onto the piece of wood until it is fully covered. You can create a design or place the bottlecaps in rows, it’s totally up to you!

To help remember the pattern and spacing, snap a picture.

Next, remove all the bottle caps from the wood plank.

3. Glue Bottle Caps to Wood

Once all of your bottle caps are removed, it’s time to secure them with Flex Glue.

First, unscrew the nozzle of the Flex Glue Clear. Using a pair of scissors or a razor blade, cut an opening large enough to ensure the glue is easily dispensed. Next, apply a liberal amount of Flex Glue Clear to the top side of each bottle cap, and recreate your chosen design onto the wood. Make sure to apply firm pressure continuously for a minimum of 10-30 seconds for Flex Glue’s instant grab to take hold. Repeat this process, gluing all the bottle caps in place until the design is complete.

Flexpert Tip: Even though the instant grab will take hold in 10-30 seconds, there is still plenty of time to slide and rearrange the bottle caps if needed before the glue fully sets to get your design just right.

4. Create Bottle Cap Risers

For this step, you’ll use Flex Glue to build “bottle cap risers,” which will hold the shamrock away from the wood base to create a more dynamic effect. To do this, glue the bottle cap tops together like a sandwich.

Make sure to press them together firmly for 10-30 seconds for the instant grab to take hold. Create 3 sets of bottle cap risers.

5. Glue Risers to Wood Base

First, center the shamrock on the wood base. Then, remove the shamrock to position the bottle cap risers so they’ll be hidden by the leaves of the shamrock once it’s glued into place. Apply a generous amount of Flex Glue Clear to the bottom of each cap and glue in place.

6. Glue Shamrock to Risers

Next, apply Flex Glue to the top of each bottle cap riser. Position the shamrock into place and apply light pressure until Flex Glue's instant grab takes hold.

7. Add Twine and Hang

Thread your twine through the top holes of the wood base and tie a knot in each end to hang. Make sure to allow 24-48 hours for the Flex Glue to cure before hanging.

We love the way this St. Patrick’s Day craft turned out and hope you feel inspired to create your own shiny craft of gold to show off this St. Patrick’s Day!
