How to Properly Apply Flex Tape

Flex Tape is designed to create a strong, waterproof seal; however, proper application is essential for achieving the best results. Whether you’re making a routine repair or handling an emergency leak, follow these steps to improve adhesion and durability.

Steps

1. Clean the Application Surface

Remove any dirt, grease, oil, or loose debris to allow the adhesive to bond more effectively. While Flex Tape can be applied to wet surfaces and even underwater, cleaning the area first (when possible) helps improve long-term performance.

2. Cut the Tape to Size

Using a razor blade or utility knife, cut a piece of Flex Tape that is large enough to fully cover the damaged area and provide extra coverage on all sides.

3. Peel Off the Backing

Expose the adhesive carefully without touching it more than necessary. Flex Tape is extremely sticky!

4. Place the Tape Over the Area

Position Flex Tape accurately before pressing it down, as it cannot be repositioned. Press firmly, applying steady pressure across the entire surface to activate the adhesive and remove air bubbles.

Flexpert Tip: Using a roller or squeegee can help apply even pressure and improve adhesion, especially on textured surfaces.

When working underwater or on wet surfaces, press the tape firmly against the surface and smooth it out as much as possible. Flex Tape is designed to push water out as pressure is applied, helping form a watertight seal.

With proper application, Flex Tape creates a thick, flexible barrier that helps stop leaks quickly and reliably. For more application tips, check out our FAQs.
