How Thick Can You Put Flex Seal On?
The thickness of your Flex Seal application depends on the product you're using and the surface you're working with. While it might be tempting to apply one heavy coat, multiple thinner layers are typically the better choice for long-lasting results and even coverage. Let’s explore recommended application techniques by product.
Flex Seal Spray
- Apply in even, sweeping strokes
- Use 2–4 light coats for best results
- Let each coat dry 24 hours before adding the next
Flex Seal Liquid
- Can be poured, brushed, or rolled onto surfaces
- Wait 24–48 hours between coats for full curing
- Ideal total thickness: about 1/8 inch (built up in layers)
Flex Paste
- For large gaps, apply in layers, allowing each one to cure before adding the next
- Use a putty knife for control
- Can be applied thick in one layer, but curing time increases with thickness
Flexpert Tip: Let each layer dry fully before adding another to avoid soft spots or delayed sealing.
Flex Seal products work best when applied with care and patience. Whether you’re sealing a small crack or coating a larger surface, building up layers gradually helps achieve a strong, even, and long-lasting seal. Check out our FAQs for more information on the Flex Seal Family of Products.
