Can I Re-Seal Window Frames with Flex Caulk Right After the Spring Thaw?
As temperatures begin to rise after winter, cracks and gaps around window frames often become more noticeable. These can form due to the natural expansion and contraction of materials during seasonal temperature shifts. Flex Caulk can be used to re-seal window frames after the spring thaw, helping keep moisture out before heavy rains arrive.
What to Know About Flex Caulk
Flex Caulk is available in either a hybrid polymer or 100% silicone formula. Here are a few key details about each formula:
- Flex Caulk Hybrid: Apply to surfaces between 0°F and 150°F; once cured, it withstands temperatures from -75°F to 220°F. It can be applied to wet surfaces and is paintable.
- Flex Caulk Silicone: Apply between -35°F and 150°F; once cured, it withstands temperatures from -70°F to 400°F. Offers excellent UV resistance but should only be applied to dry surfaces and is not paintable.
Note: If you are applying Flex Caulk to wet surfaces, use Flex Caulk Hybrid.
Before applying Flex Caulk, inspect for:
- Old, cracking, or missing caulk
- Moisture damage or mold
- Gaps around frames or joints
Make sure to remove any damaged or loose caulk and clean the area thoroughly before application. A clean surface helps ensure proper adhesion.
Re-sealing window frames after the spring thaw helps prevent water intrusion and energy loss. With proper prep and Flex Caulk, you'll create a tight, weatherproof seal that lasts season after season. For more information on Flex Caulk, check out our FAQs.
