How To Repair Cracks in Your Driveway with Flex Paste

Recently, a damaged track surface halted practice at the Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix—and it all started with a crack.

While your driveway may not face the same pressure as an F1 track, the principle is the same. Cracks allow moisture to seep in, weakening concrete and accelerating deterioration. Left untreated, they expand over time and can lead to costly structural issues.

Flex Paste® makes it easy to repair driveway cracks quickly and effectively. With just a few tools and the right technique, you can restore your surface and help prevent further damage. And with Flex Paste Clear, those repairs can be virtually invisible. Follow the steps below to seal your driveway like a pro.

How To Seal Concrete with Flex Paste

Materials

To repair cracks in your driveway, you'll need the following:

  • Flex Paste (Cartridge or Tub – White or Black)
  • Putty knife or trowel
  • Wire brush or stiff broom
  • Utility knife or chisel (for deeper cracks)
  • Clean, dry cloth
  • Protective gloves and eyewear

Steps

1. Inspect the Cracks

Begin by walking the length of your driveway and identifying any visible cracks. Look for hairline fractures, expansion joint gaps, or crumbling edges.

Flexpert Tip: Cracks wider than ¼ inch should be addressed immediately, as they can worsen with seasonal weather changes and vehicle traffic.

2. Clean the Area

Use a wire brush or stiff broom to remove dirt, dust, and loose debris from the crack. For deeper or irregular cracks, widen and clean the area with a utility knife or chisel to help Flex Paste bond properly. Wipe down the surface with a dry cloth to ensure it's clean and dry.

Flexpert Tip: Flex Paste adheres best to clean, dry surfaces.

3. Apply Flex Paste

Using either the tub or cartridge, apply a generous amount of Flex Paste directly into the crack. Press it firmly into the gap with a putty knife or trowel, making sure it fills the entire void. Smooth the surface so it’s flush with the surrounding concrete.

Flexpert Tip: Allow 24 hours before applying additional layers of paste.

4. Let It Cure

Flex Paste cures fully in 24 to 48 hours and forms a flexible, rubberized seal that resists water, UV exposure, and cracking. The result is a strong, long-lasting repair that stands up to changing weather and daily use.

Flexpert Tip: Once fully cured, Flex Paste is paintable. For a seamless look without painting, try Flex Paste Clear.

Whether it’s a high-speed racetrack or your everyday driveway, repairing cracks before they spread is key for the longevity of your surface. Flex Paste offers a fast, durable solution that protects your property and can extend the life of your concrete.
