Having family over for the holidays? This DIY Christmas tablescape is a super simple winter craft that can spruce up the look of any table.

I came up with this cute Christmas tablescape idea one day while cleaning up small pieces of scrap wood from some other DIY projects I’ve done. I love the idea of reusing leftover materials instead of throwing them away. I'm so glad I kept the wood because I love how this tablescape turned out.

Materials

● Leftover plywood – ¼”, 1x2, 1x3, 1x4 (any will work)

● 1 Flex Glue 4 oz squeeze tube, clear

● 1 Flex Seal MAX can, black

● 1 Flex Seal MAX can, white

● 1 Flex Seal can, almond

● 1/2” square dowel rod

● Orbital sander or sanding block

● Tarp

● Rectangular wooden bowl

Optional: Bottle brush trees

Steps

1. Cut Your Wood

Note: Use caution when working with power tools and always follow manufacturer’s instructions.

Take your wood and set your miter saw to a 45 degree angle, which will allow you to make triangle cuts with the pieces of wood. Each tree should be made up of 3 triangles. Keep in mind that the size of the triangles will determine the size of the tree.

Start with the bottom triangle and decrease the size of your triangles by an inch each time. Repeat this process until you have enough triangles for several trees.

Once all triangles have been cut you will need to trim off the tip on the bottom two pieces for each tree to allow for stacking.

You can also make one big triangle instead of stacked triangles to have different styles of trees. To do this, change your miter saw to varying degrees to get wider or skinnier trees. I set mine to a 22 degree angle.

2. Create the Tree Trunks

After all the tree triangles have been cut, the next step is to make your tree trunks. All you need to do for this is take your square dowel rod and cut it into different lengths to give the trees different varying heights. I cut mine between 1/2 inch to 2 inches.

Make sure to give your tree pieces a light sanding to smooth out any rough areas.

3. Spray Trees With Flex Seal

Now that you have your trees, it’s time to add some color with Flex Seal!

Out of all the 12 different colors, I chose to go with almond, black, and white for a neutral theme. After laying your cut wood pieces out onto a tarp, simply spray them and let them dry for a full 24 hours. Always make sure to read all directions on the can carefully and spray in a well-ventilated area.

4. Assemble Your Trees

For the stacked trees, start out with the biggest (bottom) piece and apply a thin bead of Flex Glue Clear on the top edge of the cut triangle.

Then, take your middle piece and press it onto glued area, holding for 30 seconds to allow Flex Glue’s instant grab to lock it into place.

After the two pieces are glued together, add a thin bead of Flex Glue Clear to the flat edge of the middle piece. Hold the middle piece and small triangle together for 30 seconds.

Repeat this process until all trees are glued together and let them dry for one hour.

Now it’s time to glue on the tree trunks. You can choose whatever size trunk you want to add to each tree. Place a dollop of Flex Glue Clear to the top of the trunk and press it against the bottom of the tree for 30 seconds. Repeat this process for each tree.

Once you’re done assembling your trees, make sure to allow a full 24 hours for the Flex Glue to cure before putting them on your Christmas tablescape display!

5. Create Your Tablescape Display

The final and most exciting step of this craft is to put together the display! I simply placed each wooden tree in a rectangular bowl and scattered a few bottle brush trees in between to add more texture and variety. Since the trees stand up on their own, there was no need for any glue, however, you could certainly apply Flex Glue to the bottom of each tree if you’d like a permanent display.

I’m so happy with how this Chistmas tablescape display turned out. Another fun craft made possible by The Flex Seal Family of Products!
